Badminton is a sport in which players stand on opposite sides of a court divided by a net and hit a shuttlecock over the net with racket blows, trying to "land" the shuttlecock on the opponent's side of the court, and vice versa, so that it does not fall on their own court. Two players or two pairs of players compete (pairs can be not only of the same gender, but also mixed - a man and a woman).
Court dimensions
Matches take place on a court - a specially marked field. It has a net and several sections that are identical on both sides of it:
- side service lines;
- back line;
- middle line;
- far line;
- right square;
- left square;
The court is marked with clearly visible light lines (white or yellow) 4 cm wide. The dimensions of the field are 13.4 x 6.1 m for doubles and 13.4 x 5.2 m for singles
Rules of the game
Even if you are preparing for an amateur game, carefully read the rules. This will make the match more interesting, and you will not lose the real sporting excitement.
1. You can play in pairs and alone, the dimensions of the sports field depend on this: 13.40 x 6.10 m for doubles and 13.40 x 5.18 m for singles;
2. A badminton net with posts installed on the court allows for a game without violations and accurate scoring;
3. The height of the net from the ground to the top edge, standard for badminton, is 155 cm;
4. the height of the badminton net (width) is 76 cm, the length is 6 m;
5. touching the badminton net during the game is considered a violation.
What is the score in badminton?
A game consists of rallies - a series of hits from the serve until the shuttlecock leaves the game. One point is counted for winning a rally.
The winner of the game is the side that first scores 21 points, provided that the difference with the opponent is 2 points. The winner of the match is the one who wins two games. In a game, you can score a maximum of 30 points - even if one of the opponents got 29 and the other 30, the winner is the second. Before reaching 30, the difference must be two points, for example, 22 and 20, 23 and 25, 19 and 21.

Types of badminton
Despite the lack of official classification, anyone can be offered to play classic, beach or speedminton. Let's try to figure out the similarities and differences between these options together with the reader:
1. Classic badminton. The match consists of two or three games. One game lasts until the opponents reach 21 to 30 points. The necessary equipment: comfortable sports shoes, shuttlecocks made of plastic or with natural feathers and rackets. The size of the court is 13.4 by 6.1 meters. The playing field is divided by a net. The floor is marked with the right and left fields for serving, out and two service lines: far and near. If the game is played one-on-one, the gender rule of conformity is observed, that is, women play with women, and men with men. If the tournament is held according to the doubles rules, mixed-sex teams can be created. They are called "mixed".
2. Beach badminton. The rules are almost the same as the classic. The main difference is the field. The size of the court is 8 by 16 m, the game net is suspended 15 cm higher, since in an open area it is possible to send the projectile stronger and higher. The court is covered with sand, most often it is just a piece of fenced beach near a reservoir. You can take any shuttlecocks, but plastic ones are recommended. Players fall more often on sand, feather models can injure a participant in the game if you land unsuccessfully on them from above. The advantage is the hygiene of plastic - it is easier to shake sand out of it. Teams are made up of one, two and three participants on one side.
Marking of the sand court: standard markings for volleyball are used. Marker lines are also added - they must be marked parallel to the net. There must be 4 m between the player and the net. This is where the tournament participant will stand at the start of the game, although for convenience and to implement his own strategy, he can move away from the marker line in the direction of the net.
3. Speedminton. The newest and most different from the classic type of badminton. The field consists of five-meter squares located at a distance of 12.8 m from each other. There is no net at all. Special rackets and shuttlecocks are required. The projectile has a rubber head and a plastic "feather". The weight of the speeder shuttlecock is 3 g more than the classic one. The rackets are pulled with powerful strings, which are 5 times stronger than the usual ones. High-speed hits can damage classic models, so it is better to buy special equipment if you want to play speedminton. You need to score only 16 points to win. In case of a tie, they play until the advantage is 2 points. More information about Speedminton can be found in the News section
